For secure voice products, to maintain security it's essential to have a way to rekey and reprogram devices in the field. After all, having to bring hardware back to base for reprogramming wastes time, energy and resources.
The solution is to use the KL-500 keyloader. This device is used to change crypto keys and is also capable of fully reprogramming a field device over the air. The KL-500 is a specially programmed VQS-500 that is inserted into a compatible Vertex Standard radio. The device takes over all functions of the Vertex radio. In the case of a portable radio, it turns the entire radio into a hand-held field operable wireless programming tool. You can also use a compatible mobile radio with a 16-key microphone.
The device can be loaded with transferable parameters using the QuikWare programming software. Additionally, some functions, like quickly changing a field unit's ID or crypto key can be performed simply by entering information via the KL front (or microphone) keypad. The unit also has a feature that permits remotely turning on and off voice security of a unit or a group of units.
All data is digitally encrypted with the host radio crypto key. In order to be capable of OTAR, the target radio device must be programmed with the correct crypto key and with MDC-1200 ANI with a valid ID.
Customers can use their own compatible Vertex radio and purchase the KL-500 board only, or they can order a fully configured system.
VQS-500 – Hopping Code with MDC-1200
VQS-420 – Inversion with MDC-1200 or GE Star
A simple plug-in board for Vertex Standard radios that will both encrypt and decrypt audio and encode/decode and display MDC-1200/GE-STAR functions. Features easy programming with a 512 MDC-1200 or 512 GE-Star alias table, MDC-1200/GE-STAR radio kill, call alert, radio check, selective call and microphone monitor capability.
